Career Choice & Change
Do you love your work? Have you found "your work?" Is better work waiting for you in another part of the country, or overseas? Have you fulfilled your dedication, or your curiosity, in one line of work, and now are ready to do 'the other thing' you've always dreamed of doing? Or are your desires about work blocked, elusive, unexpressed?

Arena Group coaches are trained to plunge right into work and career issues with our partners. By taking conscious control of the choices and opportunities presented to you, together we design a career path that is intentional and balanced, and that honors who you are.

The Arena Method® is a versatile tool for cutting through the doubt and values conflicts that often make career choice, or career growth, impossible. Self-esteem, practicality, dedication to family, and economics often are factors that make career choice or change seem difficult. Coaching offers a way to integrate your own desires and needs with all the other components, and people, in your life, in a way that makes sense for you. You'll see your career choices from a new perspective, one that is full of exhilarating, satisfying possibilities.

Creativity & Achievement
Creativity
What happens to the creative impulse after the first spark of inspiration? Why do experienced artists say that "investment is more important than invention"? What does it mean to "give of oneself creatively?" Why do individuals commonly feel intense fear along with the creative impulse? Is a creative block really just "a failure of the ego," as novelist Norman Mailer said?

Working with creativity and achievement is the heart of coaching work. Coaching can be the "magic key" to success for actors, artists, writers, and others who work mainly with material that originates within them.

The skill that liberates artists and creatives through the Arena Method® also is a powerful tool for anyone struggling to achieve goals at a new level for the first time. The heart of the Arena Method® teaches partners how to cut through blocks, attract support, experience delight in creating and achieving, and move through the hesitancy and loss that comes with finishing an important piece of work.

Coaching Women's Lives
As the world's view of women (and our own views of ourselves) have advanced dramatically in the past thirty years, our roles and responsibilities become ever more complex and demanding. Many women find themselves trying to be all things to all people, distancing us further from our real selves, and silencing our true voice within.
The Arena Method® is especially suited to assist women in regaining focus and control of our lives. This is a system for making sure you will be nourished, grounded, and safe -- so you can carve out and claim the niche in your life that belongs to you alone. Whether for creative work, on the job, or in your family or community, you can regain the vitality to make choices and give to yourself in your own life arena.

Financial Lifestyle Training
Current research proves that most Americans have no coordinated financial plan. Most rely on a grab bag of structured financial instruments (life and auto insurance, IRA/Keogh) that are not organized or understood by their owners. Americans of all classes are known to be the poorest "savers" among all the developed nations. Most Americans rely on someone else, usually an employer, to provide a basic financial structure -- yet fewer than 50% of employed people are enrolled, for example, in even the most basic disability insurance program, while among the self-employed, fewer than 15% are covered for an unexpected inability to work at their usual occupation.
Regardless of your current financial position, you can use the Arena Method® to design a comprehensive financial lifestyle that supports your personal lifestyle well. Arena Group coaches are not financial, insurance or investment advisors; rather, we coach our partners to examine and focus on financial goals, and to design and follow through on a plan to address those goals. Using the Arena Method® to stimulate planning and action, our coaching partners can attain quite significant goals, and then learn to tolerate and manage real success.

Burnout Recovery
It happens to the best of us. We start out well-intentioned and well-prepared to achieve satisfaction and success in our lives and careers, only to wake up one morning to realize we've become exhausted, angry, and out of control of the arenas we once played in so well.

Burnout can occur at two levels: career burnout and work burnout, and they are not the same. Career burnout occurs as the demands and structures of our chosen work undergo gradual changes we do not, or cannot, accommodate. Typically, we labor on for some time, perhaps years, striving to be flexible, to adapt, until a limit is reached where the desire to perform is lost, and exhaustion takes over. Work burnout occurs when gradual changes in the demands of our desired work cause inefficient, destructive changes in work habits, taking us beyond our physical limits. Most people respond to this shift simply by attempting to work harder over an extended period, until exhaustion precipitates a crisis.

Both kinds of burnout share these characteristics: our belief that suffering proves power; our competitive acceptance of discomfort; our inexperience at identifying warning signals; and the difficulty of making changes once we're out of balance.

When you're experiencing burnout, you often find yourself questioning your goals, values, and even your purpose in life. You may feel you've 'sold out', and that your life is one of toleration rather than fulfillment.

This is an important cue, not that it's 'quitting time,' but that instead it's time for a supportive review of your path to this point. What were those values you started with? Which styles of response to life's changes have served you well? What do you define as "impossible" now?

In responding to career or work burnout, Arena Group coaches try to discover what aspects of your work life you want to retain, refocus, and improve; and which ones you want to abandon. What was right for you five, ten or twenty years ago may or may not be meaningful for you today.

The Arena Method® gives you a chance to examine where you've come from, how you did it, what worked and what didn't, and what is compelling and right for you now. Working with a coach is a proven method to a more fulfilling life now.
